| Gary Cummins Sommelier/Distributor |
| Boulder native, Gary Cummins followed a unique path to the world of wine. Initially pursuing a career in the rock & roll industry, he had those dreams challenged long ago when a member of a touring international band commented during an evening @ the once legendary Boulder Music venue Tulagi's, that at best Gary was an average bass guitarist. So while pursing a restaurant career he studied Southeast Asian Art History @ the University of Colorado, traveling in India & Sri Lanka. Upon deciding that Art History was @ more of a passion and not a career option, Gary took a part time job @ Liquor Mart, which has lead to a long time career in the wine industry. With over 15 years of working retail @ Boulder Liquor Mart, The Boulder Wine Merchant, Applejacks and Superior Liquors combined with 10 years as a sommelier @ The Flagstaff House Restaurant, Gary has now settled in on the distribution side. Gary is a sales representative for 2 small distributors, Elite Brands and CTS Distributing. CTS focuses on the wines of Southern France, Australia, Argentina and Spain along with beer from a brewery in Argentina. Elite Brands wine portfolio includes a strong representation of wines from Tuscany in Italy, southern France, Spain along with domestic wines such as Cooper Mountain, an organic winery from Oregon & Babcock from California. Elite Brands also has an exceptional selection of Belgian Ales that are highly rated by rate beer and the always popular Lion Lager & Stout from Sri Lanka. Wines in both portfolios are from small to moderate size winery's, representing both value and quality. As a consultant for the Shining Star, Gary hopes to keep the wine list dynamic and in tune with the food presented along with the patrons requests for variety. He will work with the restaurant to create special evenings of food and wine pairing and will lead tastings, and perhaps even teach an occasional class on wine @ the restaurant. |
